John Boyle

Born in Edinburgh in 1950, I lived in Alloa, then studied drawing and painting at Dundee Art College (1972-1976) and at Manchester Polytechnic (1976-1977).

In 1976 I received the Farquhar-Reid Travel Scholarship, in 1979 The Elizabeth T. Greenshields Award and in 1992 the Seagate Prize at Paperworks 3, The Seagate Gallery, Dundee.

I've had solo exhibitions at Forebank Gallery, Dundee in 1982 and at The Backroom Gallery, Edinburgh in 1983 as well as touring exhibitions, in 1980 at Manchester Polytechnic, Newcastle Polytechnic and Forebank Gallery, Dundee and in 1983 at St Paul's Gallery Leeds, The Talbot Rice Gallery, Edinburgh and the McManus Art Gallery & Museum, Dundee.

I exhibited with the Dundee Group from 1978 to 1983. My most recent group exhibition was in 2003 with Despair to Where? at The Lochgelly Centre, Fife.

I have paintings in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery, Manchester Polytechnic & Dundee Art College.
